Type Locality and Naming
Northernmost Taiwan. The type sections are referred to all the formations. It was named by Ichikawa Y. in 1929 and induced by Ishizaka K. in 1942. Comprises a lower Nanzhuang Fm and upper Guizhulin Fm
Synonym: Sanhsia Gr, Sankyo Gr
Lithology and Thickness
It is characterized by the thick sandstone and shale intercalated with thin coal seam and lenticular volcanic rock. The thickness is 1300 m.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Sanxia Gr is conformable in contact to the underlying Nangang Fm of Ruifang Gr.
Upper contact
Sanxia Gr is conformable overlain by the Jinshui Fm.
Regional extent
The formation is distributed in western Taiwan.
